Job Description

Voleon is a technology company that applies state-of-the-art AI and machine learning techniques to real-world problems in finance. For nearly two decades, we have led our industry and worked at the frontier of applying AI/ML to investment management. We have become a multibillion-dollar asset manager, and we have ambitious goals for the future.

Your colleagues will include internationally recognized experts in artificial intelligence and machine learning research as well as highly experienced finance and technology professionals. The people who shape our company come from other backgrounds, including concert music performances, humanitarian aid, opera singing, sports writing, and BMX racing. You will be part of a team that loves to succeed together.

In addition to our enriching and collegial working environment, we offer highly competitive compensation and benefits packages, technology talks by our experts, a beautiful modern office, daily catered lunches, and more.

As a Senior People Business Partner at Voleon, you will be a trusted partner to leaders across our designated organizations and adjacent scaling businesses. You will translate business needs into effective, practical people solutions that enable teams to perform and scale.

This role is suited for a strong Senior PBP who operates with a high degree of autonomy, exercises sound judgment, and knows when to engage others to drive the best outcomes. You’ll also play an important role in elevating the broader PBP team through mentorship and example.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with executives, managers, and employees to provide thoughtful, pragmatic HR guidance and resolve complex people-related issues
  • Independently lead day-to-day HRBP support for your business areas, using strong judgment to determine when to escalate, align, or seek input
  • Work closely with People team and business leaders to proactively identify and implement people initiatives that improve team effectiveness, engagement, and performance
  • Execute talent and performance management processes, including talent reviews and calibrations
  • Coach managers and leaders to strengthen their capabilities in delivering effective feedback, performance management, and team leadership
  • Identify and support organizational design and change efforts as teams grow and evolve
  • Serve as a key resource on employee relations, HR policies, and compliance issues, including California and New York employment laws
  • Mentor and support more junior HRBPs, contributing to team development and consistency in how we operate
  • Collaborate with the broader People team to ensure aligned and effective delivery of People programs
  • Although some portions of the role are tactical, your primary purpose is to work as a strategic business partner

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience as an HR Business Partner supporting senior leaders
  • Experience in both a scaling company and a more established organization
  • Strong command of core HRBP disciplines, including performance management, employee relations, and leadership coaching
  • Ability to operate independently and proactively while exercising strong judgment on when to align, escalate, or seek input
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor or support the development of more junior team members
  • Practical, solutions-oriented approach with strong influence and decision-making skills
  • Solid knowledge of California employment laws and regulations
  • Exposure to or experience supporting global teams and navigating HR practices across multiple regions
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business, or equivalent experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in tech or fintech is preferred
