The Safety Coordinator plays a key role in ensuring the health and safety of employees involved in the manufacturing, maintenance, and operation of
electric yard trucks . This position supports the development and enforcement of safety programs that address the unique risks associated with
electric vehicle systems, battery handling, charging infrastructure, and yard logistics operations . The Safety Coordinator partners with supervisors, technicians, and engineers to promote a culture of proactive safety, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities Safety Program Management
- Develop, implement, and maintain safety procedures specific to electric vehicle (EV) production, battery storage and charging, and heavy vehicle movement in yard environments.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits of manufacturing areas, maintenance bays, charging stations, and yard operations to identify potential hazards and ensure corrective actions are completed.
- Maintain and update all safety documentation including SDS records, lockout/tagout procedures, and high-voltage safety protocols.
- Coordinate safety risk assessments for new processes, equipment, and facilities.
Training and Communication - Develop and deliver safety training focused on:
- High-voltage systems and EV battery safety
- Material handling equipment and yard vehicle movement
- PPE use, ergonomics, and emergency response
- Conduct new employee safety orientations and refreshers for existing staff.
- Communicate safety metrics, incident trends, and compliance status to site management and corporate EHS leadership.
Incident Response and Investigation - Participate in incident and near-miss investigations related to equipment operation, charging systems, or vehicle maintenance activities.
- Identify root causes and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Support emergency response planning, including procedures for battery fires, chemical spills, or electrical incidents.
- Maintain records and report metrics in accordance with company and regulatory standards.
Regulatory Compliance - Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, NFPA 70E, DOT, and other applicable safety standards for electric-powered equipment and industrial operations.
- Prepare for and assist during safety inspections or audits by external agencies.
- Maintain required documentation for workplace safety programs, including injury and illness logs (OSHA 300 series).
Culture and Engagement - Promote a strong safety culture across production, maintenance, and yard logistics teams through active engagement and leadership visibility.
- Collaborate with supervisors to integrate safety into daily operations and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Serve as the point of contact for safety concerns, providing coaching and solutions-oriented feedback.
Qualifications - Education: Associate or bachelor’s degree in occupational health & safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Engineering, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
- Experience:
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience in industrial safety, fleet operations, or electric vehicle manufacturing.
- Experience with high-voltage systems, battery technologies, or yard logistics strongly preferred.
- Certifications:
- OSHA 30-hour (General Industry or Construction)
- First Aid/CPR certification
- NFPA 70E training or equivalent electrical safety certification preferred
- Skills:
- Deep understanding of EV system safety, hazardous energy control, and charging station protocols.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to lead training sessions and engage employees at all levels.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and EHS management software.
Physical And Work Environment Requirements - Ability to work in manufacturing, warehouse, and outdoor yard environments.
- Exposure to electric and hybrid vehicle systems, moving vehicles, battery storage areas, and charging stations.
- Must be able to wear PPE including safety shoes, eye protection, gloves, and hearing protection as required.
- May require standing, walking, and lifting up to 25 lbs.
