The Part-Time Culture Bearer / Rootworker is responsible for designing, planning, and facilitating culturally grounded healing groups for youth and adults that center ancestral wisdom, community healing, spiritual wellness, and restorative practices. This role integrates traditional cultural knowledge, healing-centered engagement, and trauma-informed group facilitation to support participants impacted by violence, trauma, displacement, and systemic oppression.

The Culture Bearer / Rootworker serves as both a facilitator and community healer, bringing lived wisdom, cultural practices, and collective healing approaches into group spaces that foster belonging, resilience, identity development, and liberation.
This position supports Cornerstone Advocacy Services’ commitment to holistic healing by bridging clinical services with culturally rooted wellness practices for individuals, families, and communities.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Deep knowledge of cultural healing traditions, ancestral practices, restorative justice, and community healing models
  • Experience facilitating groups with youth, adults, families, or community-based populations
  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed care and healing-centered engagement
  • Experience working within multicultural and historically marginalized communities
  • Demonstrated leadership in community healing, spiritual care, mentorship, or cultural education
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, Education, Theology, Cultural Studies, or related field; equivalent lived and community-based experience highly valued
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and facilitation skills

Responsibilities
  • Design and facilitate culturally grounded healing groups for youth and adults
  • Incorporate African diasporic healing traditions, restorative practices, spiritual wellness, and community-centered healing approaches
  • Foster environments of trust, safety, accountability, and belonging
  • Support participants navigating trauma, violence, grief, identity development, and life transitions
  • Collaborate with clinical and advocacy staff to ensure alignment of services
  • Maintain professional boundaries and ethical facilitation practices
  • Provide brief documentation and participation summaries as required
  • Serve as a cultural resource within the organization to strengthen healing-centered service delivery
Program Commitment
This position runs from July 2026 through August 2027 and requires a consistent monthly commitment to ensure continuity of healing groups and sustained support for participants throughout the program year.
