Industrial Design Intern

Part-Time or Full-Time | On-Site (Salt Lake City, UT)

$21/hour · Internship runs through August 2026 with potential for full-time employment

About Espiritu Studio

At Espiritu Studio, we design and develop innovative physical products that make a real difference—from medical devices that improve lives to consumer products and advanced engineering projects.

We’re a small, collaborative team that values curiosity, creativity, and thoughtful engineering. Interns here don’t just observe—they contribute, learn, and grow alongside experienced designers and engineers.

Role Overview

We’re looking for an Industrial Design Intern who enjoys both creative concept development and compelling communication. In this role, you’ll work closely with our industrial design team to create high-quality sketches and renderings, 3D models and physical prototypes for real medical device and consumer product projects. If you’re someone who likes hands-on design work for ergonomics, usability, and aesthetic exploration, this role is a great fit.

We especially encourage students and early-career designers who are eager to learn, ask questions, and build confidence in their technical skills.

What You’ll Do

Concept Development & Industrial Design

  • Contribute to early-stage concept development through sketching, ideation, and visual exploration
  • Create thoughtful, user-centered product concepts that balance form, function, and manufacturability
  • Support development of client-facing materials, including concept boards and storytelling visuals

Prototyping & Physical Exploration

  • Translate ideas into rough and refined prototypes using shop tools, 3D printing, and simple fabrication methods
  • Test form, ergonomics, and usability through interaction with target users
  • Learn how materials, finishes, and construction methods influence product experience and manufacturability

Collaboration & Product Development

  • Work closely with industrial designers, engineers, and project managers in a collaborative and supportive environment
  • Participate in design critiques and help document design decisions

What You’ll Need

  • Experience with industrial design tools such as sketching, CAD (e.g. SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar), and/or rendering software
  • A portfolio that demonstrates your design thinking process (school projects are absolutely welcome)
  • Curiosity about how products are made, used, and experienced
  • Willingness to learn, take feedback, and grow your skills over time
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and a collaborative mindset
  • Ability to manage time across multiple projects with guidance and support
  • U.S. work authorization (no sponsorship available)

Helpful but Not Required

If you have any of these, great—but you do not need all of them to apply:

  • Experience with physical prototyping (foam, 3D printing, shop tools, etc.)
  • Familiarity with rendering tools (KeyShot, Blender, or similar)
  • Exposure to user research, human-centered design, or ergonomics
  • Interest in materials, manufacturing processes, or product detailing
  • Pursuing or recently completed a degree in Industrial Design

What You’ll Gain

  • Hands-on experience working on real products—not just practice projects
  • Mentorship from experienced designers who enjoy helping interns grow
  • A supportive environment where asking questions is encouraged
  • The opportunity to build confidence in your industrial design skills and add to your design portfolio

Top-performing interns may be considered for full-time roles after the internship.

Additional Details

  • No travel required
  • Benefits are not provided for this internship

We strongly encourage candidates from all backgrounds and experience levels to apply—even if you don’t meet every qualification listed. If you’re motivated to learn and excited about industrial design, we’d love to hear from you.
