SCHEDULE DETAILS: Full-time/12-month position/PEERS


Position Summary

The Lead Electrical Technician plays a critical role in supporting the operation and safety of the community college's facilities. This hands-on position is responsible for overseeing electrical systems across multiple campuses, performing skilled maintenance, and ensuring all electrical infrastructure operates efficiently and in compliance with codes and standards.


Essential Job Duties

  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems, equipment, and components including lighting, power distribution, and control systems.
  • Perform routine and emergency maintenance on systems such as MDPs, transformers, HVAC units, boilers, chillers, air compressors, and other facility equipment.
  • Lead and coordinate electrical projects, providing guidance to technicians and contractors as needed.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for external electrical contractors, ensuring work meets college standards and project timelines.
  • Interpret blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams to diagnose issues and implement repairs.
  • Monitor and manage the campus energy management system, making necessary adjustments to maintain energy efficiency.
  • Prioritize and assign work orders to team members to ensure timely completion of campus-wide repairs.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and inventory.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and electrical codes (NEC, NFPA, OSHA).
  • Respond to service requests and troubleshoot electrical problems in a timely manner.
  • Support facility planning and upgrades with input on electrical infrastructure and capacity.
  • Comply with college policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including attending college functions, serving on committees, and attending community events.

Non-Essential Job Duties

  • Support ongoing preventive maintenance initiatives.
  • Order parts, materials, and tools as necessary.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining inventory procedures.
  • Attend training sessions and workshops to enhance job performance.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Three years of experience in facility maintenance and electrical services.
  • Certification from an electrical program.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Manual dexterity and attention to detail.
  • Problem solving aptitude.
  • Physical stamina that will allow for long periods of standing and kneeling.
  • Interpersonal skills to interact with employees and students in a pleasant manner.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Strong time management skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Competence in using information technology for professional productivity (such as Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Willingness to work outside normal work hours and weekends as needed to complete projects, emergency calls, and or snow removal.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Associate degree in heating, ventilation, air-conditioning (HVAC) or a related field from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
  • Five years of experience in facility maintenance and electrical services.
  • Construction knowledge regarding installation of electrical wires, testing, and equipment.
  • Experience with Colleague.
  • Experience working within a collegiate setting.
