Job Description

Job Summary:

Walker Memorial Academy seeks a committed and mission-oriented Development Director (Part-Time) to lead and grow the school’s advancement efforts. This role is ideal for an experienced professional who can initially dedicate 12–16 hours per week and help build a strong development foundation with the opportunity for the position to expand to full-time as fundraising capacity and results grow.The Development Director will focus on alumni engagement, grant writing, and donor development in support of Walker Memorial Academy’s mission as a Seventh-day Adventist educational institution.


Skills, Education, and Experience Required:

  • Required Qualifications
    • Bachelor’s degree in communications, Business, Marketing, or a related field
    • Active member in good standing of the Seventh-day Adventist Church
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including persuasive and professional writing
    • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust-based relationships
    • High ethical standards and commitment to Christian education
  • Preferred Qualifications
    • Previous experience in development, fundraising, nonprofit advancement, or grant writing
    • Experience working with schools, churches, or faith-based organizations
    • Familiarity with alumni engagement strategies
    • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively within a part-time schedule


Job Responsibilities:

  • Fundraising & Donor Development
    • Design and implement a scalable fundraising strategy appropriate for a growing program
    • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individual donors, churches, foundations, and community partners
    • Assist with planning and execution of annual giving efforts and targeted fundraising campaigns
    • Maintain donor records and assist with reporting on fundraising outcomes
  • Alumni Association Development
    • Establish and develop a formal Walker Memorial Academy Alumni Association
    • Create strategies to engage alumni through communication, outreach, and events
    • Encourage alumni involvement through mentorship, service, and financial support
  • Grant Writing & Management
    • Research, identify, and pursue grant opportunities aligned with the school’s mission and priorities
    • Write and submit competitive grant proposals and required follow-up reports
    • Track grant deadlines and ensure compliance with reporting requirements
  • Communications & Community Engagement
    • Collaborate with school leadership to develop compelling fundraising messages and materials
    • Support donor and alumni communications, including newsletters, emails, and impact updates
    • Represent Walker Memorial Academy professionally at church, alumni, and community events
